Norwegian banks have been instructed by the authorities to collect and update information about our customers. Some of the questions are asked to protect the customers’ financial interests, while others are asked to help uncover and combat financial crime such as money laundering and terrorist financing. It is therefore important that you answer all questions thoroughly. The information will be treated confidentially in accordance with the bank’s duty of confidentiality.

The Money Laundering Act requires the bank to obtain information about where the money you have in the bank comes from. Register where your payments and savings come from, both current and future. This could be transfers from you or others, inheritance, sales or wages.

Tax Residency

In Norway, you are considered a tax resident if you have stayed in the country for more than 183 days during a 12-month period, or for more than 279 days during a 36-month period. If you live abroad, you are usually considered a tax resident in the country where you reside. If you are unsure about your tax residency status in any country, you should contact the tax authorities in that country to clarify your situation.
